Transit Police are looking for a Good Samaritan who intervened in a domestic assault, only to find himself being attacked with a knife by the suspect at the Surrey Central SkyTrain station last month.
Transit Police say a woman was assaulted by her common-law husband on the station platform around 8:40 p.m. PT on June 24. The husband allegedly struck his wife in the face, grabbed her hair and struck her face again.
A passerby intervened and was attacked by the suspect, Transit Police say. A second passerby then came to the aid of the first man and was also attacked by the suspect, who brandished a small knife and slashed at him numerous times before running out of the station.
Transit Police arrived at the scene and located the victim and the first witness, but the second witness had already left the scene.
Transit Police say they would like to speak with the Good Samaritan about the incident and commend him for his selfless actions and his bravery.
The unidentified man is described as a black male, in his early 20s, close-cropped hair, clean shaven, wearing a short sleeved striped shirt, white vest hoodie and knee-length shorts.
The suspect Argelio Mejia-diaz, 51, was arrested at the couple’s Surrey residence the day after the incident and charged with two counts of assault and one count of assault with a weapon. He is previously known to police.
Mejia-diaz was released with conditions that included no contact with the victim and not to be within 200 metres of the victim’s residence. But he was already arrested again for breaching those conditions, said police.
He has since been released on the same conditions and is expected to appear in court on July 19.
